Yoga Therapy
Yoga is an ancient Indian traditional (8-Limbed) path that represents a life-long journey of spiritual, philosophical and practical explorations which embody a journey ever-inward to the greater discovery of self. In the spirit of shortening long stories, “Yoga Therapy” is a bit of an oxymoron. Can deepening one’s understanding of self be described as an external therapy? That might depend on one’s vantage point.
What we can say with certainty, is that western society is awakening to the profound benefits of these ancient practices and beginning to incorporate yoga postures (asana) and breath work (pranyama) into healing methodolgies in ways that are exciting, powerful, and liberating.
In our care, we incorporate these ideas and practices under the philosophy of “Swagadam”- the Sanskrit word lacks a simple English translation, but essentially implies “Welcome- at your own pace.” In that spirit, we invite our patients to direct the degree to which we emphasize yoga postures and breath work in their own care. Whether you’re brand-new to yoga or a seasoned-practitioner, we’d love to assist you in deepening your balance between body and mind.
Namaste.
